Last Week

September 17-21

Last week we focused on Figurative Language as this was identified as an area for improvement for most students during the literacy assessments. We covered Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia, Oxymoron and Alliteration. Students were given class time to on their assignments. If students did not finish they were sent home for homework.

We are also nearing the end of our novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students are enjoying the book and excited to see how it ends.

September 10-14

This week all Humanities 6-3 and 6-4 students completed their reading and writing assessments. The results from these assessments will be used by teachers to gain a better understanding of where all students current learning is at so that we can better assist them in their learning moving forward.

We finished the week off with the Terry Fox run on Friday. Fundraisers for Terry Fox will continue throughout the rest of the month of September.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hi All,

Today in Grade 6 Humanities all students completed their reading assessments. This assessment is to help teachers and the school better understand the learning needs of individual students. The assessment was comprised of two readings, a narrative and a functional reading. Students read each reading separately and then answered 6 questions about the reading.

On Thursday we will complete the writing portion of the assessment. This will be similar to reading portion where there will be two separate parts, narrative and functional.

On Friday Ernest Morrow School will be having their Terry Fox Run. Make sure you come prepared to run and/or walk and be sure to dress for the weather!

Hi Everyone!

Last week was a very busy week, we continued to work hard on our Coat of Arms and they are nearing completion! We had picture day on Wednesday and all grade 6 girls attended a presentation for Starbright on Thursday morning. Forms for Starbright should have been brought home to be signed by Parents/Guardians. On Friday we had our first school wide fire drill, we managed to evacuate the school in record timing! Great work everyone!
