Film 6/7

Welcome to Exploration in Film! The following letter was sent home with your child this week:

Dear Parents/Guardians,  

Throughout the semester in Exploration in Film 6/7, there will be a variety of movies that we will be watching. To ensure that parents are informed and can make an informed decision in determining whether students have permission to watch these movies, I have listed some of the movies that we may be watching this semester. There are a few that are rated PG-13. These movies have been selected for their cinematic merits and/or for being a good example of a specific genre. Students will then attempt to recreate elements of film on their own. Titles of the specific films being shown in class will be posted on the class blog (https://derstepaniangr6.blogspot.com/p/film-67.html). If you would like more information on any of these movies, please go to www.imdb.com and type in the title of the movie.

Exploration in Film 6/7 Teacher

Students have completed filming and editing our commercials! They all look awesome.

This week we watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Next we will begin doing an assignment looking at the various shots used throughout the filming of the movie.

Film 6/7 students have started creating their storyboards and scripts for their commercials. Students have been tasked with developing and creating their own commercial. Once students have completed their storyboards and scripts they will begin filming.



This week we have been watching Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom. Once we complete this film students will begin creating their own commercials. First, we will create storyboards to help visual and create our ideas. Students will work in small groups on these projects. I look forward to sharing these commercials after they are finished.

Starting Monday September 24 we will be watching The Dark Knight. This movie was chosen for students as it is the third highest rated movie ever on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). Heath Ledger's role as the Joker is known as one of the greatest villain roles and Christian Bale's role as Batman surprised many. This film will take us into next week as it is 153 minutes (2 and a half hours).

This week we are watching The 33. This film tells the story of the 33 Chilean miners who became trapped inside a gold mine after it collapsed. The film was made in 2015 and has a rating of PG.

Today Course Outlines and Parent/Guardian letters were sent home with Grade 7 students and will be sent home tomorrow with Grade 6 students. Please find the information also attached here.

Over the last few weeks we watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and learned about various camera angles that are used throughout filming. Students completed two assignments related to camera angles. Both assignments have been updated on PowerSchool!
