November 5-9

This week we concluded our learning about the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Students had many questions and we had many great class discussions surrounding the sections of the Charter.

Next week we will begin on our Charter of Rights and Freedoms projects. Students will be asked to create a project on one section of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

We have also started a new class book this week. Students voted for A Series of Unfortunate Events: A Bad Beginning. As we read the book students will be given small tasks to check for understanding and listening skills.

Literacy Centre's and the Charter

Yesterday we had our first go around with literacy centre's. All students did great and were participating and engaged in their assigned centre's. We only had time to do one centre yesterday, we are hoping in the future that students will be able to complete 2-3 centre's each time. Moving forward we will complete literacy centre's every Wednesday.

We also started completing posters yesterday for the four freedoms we have covered so far. Students chose a partner to work with and have been given a poster to create. The four freedoms are: freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of association. Students must define their freedom and draw five related pictures about their freedom. The posters are looking great so far!

October 29 - November 2

Thank you to all of the parents and students who attended curriculum sharing night last Thursday. It was great to see everyone and to share with the parents all of the hard work we have done so far this year!

This week will be focusing on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Students will begin to look at the Charter and how it impacts their lives and the lives all people living in Canada.

On Wednesday we will be working with Ms. Baillargeon to start Literacy Centre's. Students will be divided into groups of 5-6 and will work through a series of centre's that will work to improve their literacy skills. We hope to run these centre's each Wednesday from now on.

September 24-28

Last week we started our new daily routines.
Monday's we will be doing Visual Vocabulary. This will focus on our social studies terms.
Tuesday's we will be focusing on Current Events. Each week we will choose a different event to discuss as a class.
Wednesday's we will be completing Word Work to build upon and improve student vocabulary.
Thursday's we will be focusing on Geography. Last week we reviewed the 10 Provinces and 3 Territories of Canada.

We also finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last week. This week students will get to watch the movie. Prior to watching the film students will review and learn about Elements of a story (Characters, Setting, Plot, Conflict and Resolution). We will compare and contrast the differences between the book and the movie after watching!

A friendly reminder that there is no school next week!
